What is a Dental-Related Emergency?

Dental-related emergencies can strike at any time. Even for patients who take great care of their teeth, an emergency can happen when they least expect it. Emergencies can range from being relatively minor, like a filling falling out, to something more problematic, like an abscess or severe tooth pain. We work quickly to get you in to be seen and remedy the emergency that you’re dealing with right now.

Why do you need to be seen quickly for Dental Emergencies?

While minor emergencies may not seem like such a big deal, they can become worse if left untreated. Abscesses and severe infections can create a lot of pain, discomfort and even begin to affect your overall health. It is important to call our office at the sign of any type of dental-related emergency. We work with emergency patients regularly, so we welcome you into our office whether you’ve been with us or are a new patient.

What are the common types of Dental-Related Emergencies?

We consider a dental emergency any situation that’s leaving you feeling distressed, in pain or frustrated. Oral pain can become quite severe if left untreated, so it’s important to call us as soon as you notice there is a problem. Some of the more common dental-related emergencies we see on a routine basis include:

  • Infections and abscesses
  • Severe pain
  • Orthodontic emergencies
  • Lost restorative work (crowns, bridge work, fillings, veneers)
  • Post-op surgical complications
  • Teeth that have cracked, fractured or completely broken
  • Sensitivity

What can be expected during an appointment for an Emergency?

We recommend that you contact our office immediately when you notice there is a problem relating to your oral health. Our staff will take x-rays of the area that’s bothering you. We will do an exam and use these x-rays to determine what the problem is and what the best way to treat it will be. Our goal is to get you seen quickly and to eradicate any pain or distress you’re feeling. We are completely equipped to handle the vast majority of dental-related emergencies in our office.
